Exploring Bacolod and Negros

Masskara Festival

Bacolod City is the capital of the province of Negros Occidental and is known as the "City of Smiles." We are world-famous for our annual Masskara festival which is a celebration of the Negrense's love for gaiety. Tourists from all over the world come during the month of October to witness the tribal dances and enjoy the festivities held all month long.

Food Trip!

The people also enjoy staying in Bacolod because of the great food all around the city. Native Filipino cuisine is offered in most restaurants including fresh seafood and grilled dishes or sinugba. Don't forget the very popular chicken inasal that is loved by all Filipinos. The succulent grilled chicken, garlic fried rice and yellow oil makes for a very satisfying meal.

Sugar Capital

Negros island is known as the sugar capital of the Philippines because most of the sugar being used on tables all over the country are produced here. One can stop by most of the highways and ask friendly locals for a bite of fresh, juicy and newly harvested sugarcane stalks during harvest season. Sugar mills dating as far back as the American occupation here in the country can be visited with proper coordination with their offices. There are many kinds of sweet delicacies that we call pasalubong because it is usually brought back to friends and family when returning from Bacolod. You should not leave Bacolod without trying our sweet delights!

Beach Getaways

Negros island is also dotted with white sand beaches. Escalante in the northern tip of the island is home to a couple of these beaches. On the south-western part of the island, Sipalay is known for its diving spots. Local and foreign tourists visit these beaches all year round. They're not at par with the beaches of Boracay, but they still make for good rest and relaxation havens over the weekends or when you just want to go frolic under the sun. Most of them are only 3-4 hours drive away from Bacolod. More on beaches in Negros.
